EssayMate User Guide

Getting Started:

  1. Step 1: Log In

    • Log in to your EssayMate account.

  2. Step 2: Navigate to Essay Generation

    • From the left sidebar, click on "Generate Essay".

Creating Your Essay:

  1. Step 3: Provide Essay Details

    • Enter your topic under "Essay Topic or Prompt".
    • Specify the length under "Word Count".
    • Choose your "Citation Style".
    • Clearly outline your instructions in "Additional Instructions".
    • Optionally, upload your source PDFs under "Reference Materials (Optional)".

Important Tips:

  • Your essay topic should clearly reflect the title of your assignment (e.g., essay, research paper, or case study).
  • In "Additional Instructions", specify clearly how the document should be structured, including sections or special guidelines. Avoid pasting entire rubrics or grading criteria here.
  • For web sources, convert them to PDF using your browser's Print → Save as PDF feature. Avoid scanned PDFs.
  • If you need to access journals and articles (some articles/journals have free PDF access while some have limited PDF access) for free, visit Semantic Scholar, search for your topic and make sure to click on the 'Has PDF' option to get journals/articles with the option to download the PDF.

Generating and Selecting Essays:

  1. Step 4: Choose Your Essay Method

    • Click on "Generate Essay".
    • You will see retrieved essay matches. To review a match, click "View More".
    • If a match suits your needs, click "Use Selected Essay" to have it customized to your instructions.
    • If no matches fit, click "Generate Fresh Essay" to create a new essay using AI.
  2. Step 5: Generation Process

    • Allow the essay generation process to complete without refreshing or leaving the page.

  3. Step 6: Review Your Generated Essay

    • Your essay draft will appear once the generation finishes. Note that this draft may require further refinement.

Post-Generation Options:

  1. Step 7: Actions on Generated Essay

    • On the right-hand side under "Actions", you can:
      • Download the unpolished essay (.txt format) by clicking "Download".
      • Request professional editing by clicking "Request Review" (provide your deadline).
      • Request an AI/Plagiarism report by clicking "Get AI/Plagiarism Report".
  2. Step 8: Tracking Reviews

    • To monitor your human reviews, click "Submissions" in the left sidebar.
      • Active reviews will appear under "Active Submissions".
      • Click "Chat" to communicate directly with your reviewer and provide additional documents such as rubrics or extra instructions.
      • Upon completion, the polished essay (DOCX format) will appear under "Submission History".
      • You can download the reviewed version by clicking "Download Reviewed", chat further, or request additional revisions via "Request Revision".

Managing Your Essays:

  1. Step 9: View Generated Essays

    • Click "Generated Essays" on the sidebar to see all your previously generated essays.
    • Here, you can download your drafts (.txt format) anytime.
